11 Mar Health Care Rights Day: Know Your Rights, Protect Your Future
What is National Health Care Rights Day?
Triage Cancer founded National Health Care Rights Day on March 22 to raise awareness about the importance of understanding and accessing your health care rights—especially for individuals facing chronic or serious medical conditions. Our goal is to ensure that information about insurance, workplace rights, disability benefits, consumer rights, and other critical health-related legal issues is accessible and understandable.
What Are Health Care Rights?
Health care rights refer to laws that provide access to necessary care, insurance coverage, workplace accommodations, essential benefits, and other protections. These rights can include:
- Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) protections
- Health insurance options and coverage requirements (what your plan must cover)
- Reasonable accommodations at work for individuals with medical conditions
- Protections for caregivers at work
Why Do Health Care Rights Matter?
A serious or chronic medical diagnosis can be overwhelming: physically, emotionally, and financially. Understanding your rights can help protect you from unnecessary costs and barriers to care. Without clear, accessible information, individuals may struggle to advocate for themselves, navigate health care systems, or secure the protections they’re entitled to.
Join Us in Celebrating!
On March 22, take action by:
- Sharing your story on social media using #NationalHealthCareRightsDay
- Sign up for the Triage Cancer Conference to get an introduction to your health care rights
- Learning more about your rights related to health insurance , disability benefits , and workplace protections
- Contacting your elected officials to support policies and laws that support the health care needs of their constituents
Together, we can ensure that everyone has the knowledge and support they need to access the quality health care, and minimize the financial hardship that may come with a chronic or serious medical condition.
