06 May Healing Through Writing Workshops with Elephants and Tea
Triage Cancer is proud to collaborate with organizations serving individuals diagnosed with cancer and caregivers. This blog post is from our organizational partner, Elephants and Tea .
Elephants and Tea and This Is Living With Cancer ™ have partnered together for a three-part series utilizing our Healing Through Writing Workshops. These theme-based workshops explore therapeutic writing as a form of processing and coping with ones' cancer experience to help live life beyond your diagnosis. Participants will feel the power of writing and sharing parts of their story not only to help others, but to help aid in their own healing as well.
The Benefits of Therapeutic Writing
The beauty of therapeutic writing is that you do not need to have any experience in writing to access the benefits of it. Writing our story is about owning our story and recognizing that there is no right or wrong way to do it because your story is your own. No one can tell you that your experiences are not real or valid, but rather you get to explore their meaning in a way that feels nonjudgmental and accessible. Elephants and Tea staff guide participants through writing prompts and an open discussion after each exercise as a way to empower oneself and connect to their peers.
Family Planning and Cancer
These workshops focus on three different areas, relationships, caregivers, and family planning. The final workshop, on May 14, will explore the ways a cancer diagnosis can impact the way we feel about family building and the emotions that come with these conversations and decisions. This writing workshop will encourage participants to explore their emotions around family planning after a cancer diagnosis in a supportive space with others who get it.
Ready to share your story? Participants who wish to build upon the writing they start in the workshops or would like to write on the topics of relationships, caregiving, or family planning can submit their pieces for a chance to be included in a special edition magazine regardless of if you joined the workshops or not. The issue will highlight stories from all three workshop perspectives and themes.
No experience with writing is necessary!
